چکیده

ANATOMY: The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is one of four major ligaments that supports the knee and is the primary static stabilizer against valgus rotation of the joint. It consists of two components, the superficial (sMCL) and deep MCL (dMCL). The sMCL has one femoral and two tibial attachments. The femoral attachment is situated on the medial epicondyle. The proximal attachment blends into the semimembranosus tendon and the insertion of the distal attachment is at the posteromedial crest of the tibia. The anatomy of the medial side of the knee has been further defined quantitatively with exact attachment locations and relative distances between structures. LaPrade and colleagues reported that the sMCL has one femoral attachment, 3.2 mm proximal and 4.8 mm posterior to the medial epicondyle, and two tibial attachments, a proximal attachment connecting to soft tissue and a distal attachment blending in with the pes anserinus bursa 61.2 mm distal to the knee joint. The dMCL is divided into two: the meniscofemoral and meniscotibial ligaments. The origin of the meniscofemoral comes from the femur just distal to the superficial medial collateral, inserting into the medial menisci. The meniscotibial ligament is thicker and shorter with an attachment forming on the distal edge of the articular cartilage of the medial tibial plateau, coming from the medial meniscus.

Medial Collateral Ligament Injury; A New Classification Based on MRI and Clinical Findings. A Guide for Patient Selection and Early Surgical Intervention

Medial collateral ligament (MCL)injury, is one of the most common ligament injuries of the knee, mostly results from a valgus force.Restoration of function and going back to the pre-injury level of function is the aim of treatment in ligament injuries of the knee. There are multiple soft tissue structures in medial side that play an important role in connection with each other to retain medial s...

Treatment of medial collateral ligament injuries.

The medial collateral ligament is the most frequently injured ligament of the knee. The anatomy and biomechanical role of this ligament and the associated posteromedial structures of the knee continue to be explored. Prophylactic knee bracing has shown promise in preventing injury to the medial collateral ligament, although perhaps at the cost of functional performance. Most isolated injuries a...

Therapy for elbow instability injuries

Elbow instability often results in chronic overuse injuries, especially with overhead throwing in athletes. Initial management of medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries often is conservative, but surgery may be required. In several studies, nearly half of throwing athletes with MCL injuries who were treated conservatively were able to return to their previous level of competition. Surgical t...

The effects of a functional elbow brace on medial joint stability: a case study.

Medical elbow ligament sprains in athletics can be traumatic and disabling. In this case report, we outline the effect of a prototype functional elbow brace on joint stability in a female collegiate javelin thrower with an ulnar collateral ligament sprain. A valgus force to both elbows was applied using graded stress radiography (Telos GA-II/E stress device) at 0, 5, 10, and 15 kiloPascals (kPa...

Evaluation and treatment of medial collateral ligament and medial-sided injuries of the knee.

Injuries to the medial side of the knee are not always isolated injuries of the superficial medial collateral ligament. Medial-sided injuries can also involve the deep medial collateral ligament, the posteromedial corner, or the medial meniscus. Magnetic resonance imaging is a useful adjunct to the physical examination; however, the extent of medial-sided injuries is frequently underappreciated...
